Back in the Studio

Two years passed since we rented a photo studio for a baby portraits session, two posts were published on this blog.We rented for a morning with friends the same studio for a morning of family pictures. The room setup was similar, we used one or two 500w Bowens Esprit Flash with Soft boxes. Camera gear has improved and all the pictures were taken with our canon EOS 5D Mk III – EF 24-70mm f2.8, most of them between f/11 and f/14, ISO 400 in full manual. We also used a reflector and wind machine at times.

Here is for the technical side – now let’s dive in. It was more challenging, because we tried to get the two kids together smiling, pretty impossible. We were limited on time as well, 40mins per couple in total – so not really enough to relax.

With 500 in total, I only looked at half of them so far, and mostly to give away to friends – so you can expect another post with some more images as we take time to process them. So here we are –

The chairs seemed like a brilliant idea …. until Olivier fell down head first on the floor. It’s hard wood and he did not put his hands, so our first set was not onto a best start. Luckily nothing broken and no blood on the white paper (at £10 per meter – it could quickly add to the cost). Anyway we got this picture, the only one of our two angels together, better than nothing.

Asking them to smile is pointless – so the best way is to trick them. Friends and sharing the amusements is perfect, Zoe and Chiara were delighted to see each other, so we got them to play together on the set while trying to steal moments of joy like this one.

Olivier is just so photogenic. It’s quite difficult to get a non-pretty picture with him smiling and whenever he moves towards his parents or sister, you can be sure he will be all smiles, that helps ! The main objective of this shoot was to get a few good portraits of Olivier, that’s done.

Investing in training your staff pays off . Sabrina delivers once again and press the shutter at the right time. It is said there are improvements generation after generation, at least for the hair implantation this is pretty obvious from this one.

To be continued …
